RTI International (RTI), a non-profit independent research and development company, was approached by Analytical Chemistry (AC) group, Energy Technology Division (ETD), and Analytical Chemistry + Pharmaceuticals to develop the spaces for their newest grant-funded experiments. RTI functions primarily in a co-op with researchers as tenants of their space. Each researcher has been funded for experiments, testing, or trials through governmental or for profit companies.
NEMA Management was selected by RTI International to oversee the consolidation and optimization of lab space for the Discovery Sciences and Technology business unit within RTI. The project consisted of a phased renovation and relocation of three separate labs totaling 6,100 SF. The labs include the Energy Technology Division (ETD), Analytical Chemistry & Pharmaceutics (ACP), and Analytical Chemistry (AC). The project took place within an occupied laboratory building and required careful coordination of the work. This included hours of pre-planning and working off hours for shutdowns to tie-in new mechanical and electrical equipment. The renovations included installation of fumehoods, fumeshoods and HVAC equipment rated for acids, snorkel exhaust, laboratory casework, lab supply air valves, lab exhaust air valves, new BAS controls, LED lighting and lighting controls, as well as all new finishes. The project also included vibration testing to ensure proper location of sensitive equipment as well as commissioning of the HVAC systems.
